NEED HELP!!!!!

Go here and look at the room that will be Baby J's nursery. We are making a trip North soon and helping to put it "All Together". I am trying to decide what we need to do with the windows. This is an old historic house built in the Tudor style and as you see the windows are not uniform in the room. The bed stuff that C & A have picked out is in brown/green colors.

NOW, what do we do with the window treatment? Don't want to follow the bedding theme-since they do outgrow that and go on to other themes. Besides a few nursery patterns go a LONG WAY! Don't want to spend a fortune-but would like cute. ANY IDEAS??????

I plan to run this by my seamstress extraordinaire friends, Helen & Rachel-BUT would love to hear any other ideas. I tend to go to Roman shades, but know there are many other choices out there.

What a cute room! I just love this house...so story bookish. I am thinking about the windows. I too like shades, but maybe that is too 80's. I just think they would fit into those spots nicely...the valance can be as plain or complicated as you want....or whatever color. It will be adorable I am sure. HB and Rachel both know how to make them and can probably give you some advice. I bet you and Camille could follow her directions.

From Erie, PA:

For a theme up and down the sides, find some material (or make it) with acorns all over the base in green grass. Behind is an ever growing oak tree.
(Greens and browns covered there).

The valance can hold "blue-is-for-boys" by incorporating artistry of puffy white clouds in the morning on the left (coupled with blue-blue openings).

Sun in the middle.

Blue hour at evening (to the right) with twinkling stars coming into prominence.

Let the boy make wishes on his stars as he grows.
(perhaps write the wish and date it on the wall by the star as he grows).

I recorded my daughters' height on the doorwall entrance inside their room about every 6 months. Pencil in the height from the floor and the full date. Take a pic when they are grown and each time you add a new notch upward. It makes an awesome collection over time.

An aside:
Please get a sticker from the fire department that you put on the window pane alerting that there is a baby in the room.

In the event of emergency, they can quickly locate the baby room from outside.

If the stars on the valance is tough to do, border wallpaper at the room top in stars of blue, and perhaps lighthouses (big deal around Erie, Pa).

I'll try to dig up a link of a local city block long mural that depicts an entire day from morning sunrise til midnight. Your border could do that, or go with a simple "blue stars" on appropriate sky backround.

On the Oak Tree, the young man's name should be knitted into the tree as if it were carved in a heart....like,

God
+
Adam

inside a heart.

You could easily call him Danny too. I think he would approve.

Everyone has Venetian Blinds here, but the vertical are out of style and would drive Cam nutz when the boy grows and plays with them like an accordian.

Many prayers cover this mom and child and dad.
They are a wonderful part of Erie, PA.
Take a bow, Lora.

Window treatments are not my thing. I rely on other people's advice as well. I know whatever you guys decide will be precious. OH THIS IS SO EXCITING- The bay bay is coming!

Well, you complained that I didn't chime in, so here:
1) Roman blinds are great. Blow off the verticals and go for the real deal.
2) If you're in for a little bit of work, you can make a durable stained-glass look - we've been in our current house a decade. The wife did several windows this way, and they still look awesome. It consists of a transparent colored adhesive film, and adhesive metal tape in the seams to make it realistic. NOBODY knows that we don't have stained glass windows. You do it in the boy's room because a) It adds a constant shading, especially if you use darker shades of colors. b) The patterns look cool on the floor, and c) you keep the perps from peeping.
3) Buzz Lightyear, Stitch, or Bolt drapes. He's a boy, but Pokemon is too hard-core now.
4) Verticals with a blown-up/cut up picture of Jumpy Dog on them, so when the blinds are closed you get a full picture of the slobbermatic spazizoid.
